What's new on Mana Pool: June 4 - June 24
Here’s a look at what’s changed on manapool.com between June 4-June 24.
📌 Highlights
- In Development - we’re actively working on picture listings and listings for off-catalog items, personalized recommendations, and the Gather & Verify program.
- In the Aether - we’re considering local pickup, kiosk, and website functionality for sellers; a mobile app to scan cards; and the ability to generate commander decks from a single seller’s inventory.
- High-End Verifications - items priced at $300 or more from sellers without track records are now routed through Mana Pool for verification. This affects only very new sellers.
- Pricing Anomalies - seller workflows now advise about pricing anomalies in more places.
- Buyer Order Views - buyer order pages now show packages more consistently, including better package cards, ratings, and report/rate actions across list and detail views.
- Art Cards - we hid all art cards and stopped allowing them to be listed, because we don’t yet have the capability to handle signed/not-signed versions. Art cards again someday!
Stuff You Might Notice
🚚 For Sellers
Inventory Listing & Editing
- Seller workflows now advise about pricing anomalies in more places.
- Sellers can now filter printings by set code.
- The add-inventory flow now makes better use of wide screens and keeps the printing picker from overlapping.
- Adding a card to inventory now defaults to Near Mint / Non-Foil / English.
- Bulk price update now has a nicer filter experience, including one-click “select all below” in filter lists.
- Large CSV imports got faster.
Packing Slips & Shipping
- Packing slips and envelopes got several quality-of-life improvements: apartment/unit formatting is more USPS-friendly, 4x6 PDF output now respects the selected layout, return-address state can be cleared, and prices render more cleanly.
Seller Accounts
- Added a new onboarding experience and emails for new sellers.
- Hid seller functions for pure buyer accounts.
- Profile/account experience is a bit cleaner, with account controls moved into Settings instead of the main menu.
Bug Fixes
- 🐛 Fixed some user-reported issues in the seller ratings dashboard.
- 🐛 Fixed seller order and listing-related crashes caused by large-number filters, duplicate API inputs, and several integration edge cases.
🧙♀️ For Buyers
Browse, Search & Card Discovery
- Browse now has a filter for “card text,” so you can find cards that say things like “draw a card.”
- Browse pages are faster and have better back-button behavior.
- Refined result ordering so out-of-stock unsold items get pushed down.
- Seller sales counts and market-price-style numbers now display with thousands separators.
- Homepage and carousel card selection got smarter about legality and catalog quality, so formats and featured cards should make more sense.
- The homepage now degrades more gracefully if a product fetch fails instead of dumping you onto a full error page.
Orders, Cart & Checkout
- Buyer order pages now show packages more consistently, including better package cards, ratings, and report/rate actions across list and detail views.
- Optimizer results now clear when you change filters, so you won’t be looking at stale recommendations from an old run.
Bug Fixes
- 🐛 Fixed a set-page empty-state issue and several slug/search bugs that could incorrectly 404 or time out.
- 🐛 Fixed checkout and cart crashes tied to enum drift, stale chunks after deploys, and transient listing-load failures.
👩💻 API Users & Integrations
- ShipStation orders now include a ship-by date and preorder flags.
- The integrations page now has an in-page Help Center link to make supported tools easier to discover.
- API inventory writes are more flexible now: integrations can update price or quantity independently, send 1-cent prices that still respect Mana Pool’s 15-cent floor, and get cleaner handling for duplicate items or conflicting external IDs instead of mysterious failures.
⚡ Performance & Reliability
- A lot of effort went into reducing database load, write amplification, and refresh contention: cleaner indexes, faster browse and inventory pagination, lighter schema reload behavior, and safer refresh scheduling.
- CI and deployment plumbing got cleaner and quieter, with less redundant work and better tooling around schema checks and migrations.
- A large batch of internal fixes landed for noisy Sentry errors, flaky admin pages, validation edge cases, and background-job retries that were causing duplicate or confusing operational signals.
🕵️ Behind the Scenes
These changes affect internal systems or beta test features that won’t be apparent to you, but we include this info for the curious.
Support & Ops
- Added a new maintenance-mode admin control.
- Improved email-lookup handling.
- Added several small dev/admin utilities to make support work smoother.
- Support/admin order pages got a long list of fixes and usability improvements, including better package views and faster/paginated modals.
Promotions & Programs
- We now have the capability to do a “Double Extra Mana” day, and we used it for the first time when our partnership with Tolarian Community College launched.
Seller Integrations
- Oversells from CrystalCommerce and Shopify are now auto-resolved more aggressively before undelegated-order alerts fire, reducing manual cleanup.
Analytics & Catalog
- Internal analytics and retention tooling expanded, including affiliate filtering and more structured telemetry around optimizer behavior and builds.
- Secret Lair singles now have good release dates and messages about when they will ship.
🚧 In Development
Gather & Verify Shipping
- Beta testers can continue trying Mana Pool’s Gather & Verify program, with a big wave of work on buyer order views, gathered admin pages, verification tools, package timelines, replacement lookup, and consolidated shipping emails.
- We’re working to make the orders flow faster, make it easier on admins to run the program, and clean up user-reported issues.
- We’re adding a setting to let buyers choose whether to always get replacements for issues, or to opt for partial refunds.
Recommendations & Personalization
- Personalized recommendations are getting closer. We’re internally alpha-testing a recommendations feature based on previous purchases and a model of how cards relate based on their attributes.
Unique Products & Picture Listings
- We’ve started work on enabling listings with pictures/metadata, and listings for off-catalog items.
