How the Mana Pool Deckbuilder Works

Mana Pool generates decks for any seller that has 1,000+ different card names in stock, some commanders, and at least 50 of each basic land. Decks are rebuilt each time the seller makes a sale or updates their inventory.

Pre-Constructed and Custom Decks

Buyers can choose a precon deck, or use the decbkbuilder to design a custom deck. Via the deckbuilder, buyers can choose a commander, budget, theme, and a series of packages of cards to fill out the deck. They can also swap in and out individual cards. By design, decks are generated per seller, but buyers can choose to tweak the decks to have cards from other sellers, or run the deck through the Cart Optimizer to attempt to find a less expensive (but multi-package) way to get the deck.

How does the Mana Pool Deckbuilder work?

The deckbuilder uses traditional machine learning and several data sources to solve the problem of, "given this deck, what is it missing?" This means the decks get created based on card synergies, instead of just card popularity. Data sources include:

On top of this model, we do statistical analysis on the decks and the oracle tags of containing cards. We cluster the decks by their oracle tags into about 100 "topics" or "archetypes." We take each topic, and look at all the decks in that topic and construct a template based on the oracle tags. Additionally, we look at all commanders and create a mapping of what topics are typically played with that commander.
