Radagast's Response - The Hobbit Precon

deck

We are playing Radagast as any true Wizard would: control style. We use Radagast's flash enabling and cost reduction to cast creatures that disrupt our opponents. Good green staples like Timeless Witness, Reclamation Sage, Druid of Purification become amazing with Radagast, being able to play them at instant speed they work better than premium removal and recursion. They also become not only instant-speed removal but potential blockers that can get rid of smaller creatures that dare come our way. Acidic Slime is amazing here as it can easily two-for-one a cheeky opponent that is brave enough to attack us. A lot of our ramp comes in the form of 2-mana colourless creatures as these can be cast for free on our opponents' turns if we see the chance. Without say, Radagast is essential to our plan, so we need to protect him at all costs with cards like Tyvar's Stand, Tamiyo's Safekeeping or Mithril Coat. Playing at instant speed also allows us to play defensive cards like Hornet Nest or Broodhatch Nantuko if any opponent dares come at us. We also have a toolbox element in our deck that will let us answer trouble cards. Cards like Chord of Calling, Birthing Pod or Formidable Speaker will let us tutor for enchantment, artifact or creature removal as needed. We run some utility creatures as well. Temur Sabertooth allows us to bounce our own creatures to reuse ETB triggers. Saryth, the Viper's Fang gives all our untapped creaures hexproof and turns our attacking creatures into menacing deathtouchers. As any good control deck would, we also need to keep a cards in hand with answers to our opponents' threats. Traditional green card draw like Beast Whisperer and, Guardian Project or Lifecrafter's Bestiary make sure we replace the creatures we play with additional cards. We also have big card draw in the form of Regal Force or Return of the Wildspeaker and Glademuse seems like a card made for this deck. As any other self-respecting green mage, we use fight effects attached to our creatures like Thorn Mammoth to get rid of our opponents'. Apex Altisaur is our instant-speed board wipe. Ezuri's Predation works as a partial board wipe and wincon in this deck. And speaking of wincons, as any other good green mage, we win through good ol' combat damage. We pick cards like Pathbreaker Ibex or Thunderfoot Baloth over their more traditional, and usually more powerful, Craterhoof due to being able to cast this at instant speed at the end of our opponents' turns. But, as any good spell-slinging Wizard, ending the game with a powerful sorcery is only in line. If we have been able to control the board well enough, a Biorhythm should be devastating to our opponent's life totals, letting us then attack with whatever creatures we have for the win. Oh, and we also couldn't really call ourselves a control deck if we didn't run at least one counterspell. That's why we run Avoid Fate to counter any instant-speed interaction directed at our creatures. Notes: If you woud like for this deck to feel more like a precon you can take out the game changers - Biorhythm and Seedborn Muse, for Shamanic Revelation and your overrun effect of preference to make it officially bracket 2. Then, you can take out the more expensive lands like Nykthos and Boseiju for two forests or cheap utility lands of your preference. You can also substitute some of the more expensive spells like Green Sun's Zenith for Fauna Shaman, Birthing Pod for Eldritch Evolution, Apex Altisaur for Foe-Razer Regent, Guardian Project for Harmonize, Tribute to the World Tree for Elemental Bond, Avoid Fate for Bushwhack, Tamiyo's Safekeeping for Horrid Vigor and Mithril Coat for Gaea's Gift. These changes should shave off around $200-$250 the total price of the deck as well.
